The NJCA has been raising the demands of government employees before Committee of Secretaries, for the last couple of months

New Delhi, February 5 : Over 10 lakh Railway Employees are all set to protest across the country on Monday as their demand a hike in allowances is not fulfilled by the government under the 7th pay Commission. The protest has been called by the National Joint Council of Action (NJCA) convenor Shiv Gopal Mishra who had earlier kept the demand of central government in front of the union government.

Mishra said that during the protest, “Central government employees including those working with the Indian Railways would be wearing black bands on their hands”. He further added that the railway service across India will not be affected as it is employees will be working along with the protest.

Earlier there were reports that Cental Government employees who are eagerly waiting for the implementation of 7th Pay Commission are expecting that their demands for hike in allowances will be expected from the month of April. The NJCA has been raising the demands of government employees before Committee of Secretaries, for the last couple of months. However, the NJCA convenor termed the protest as a mass meeting to decide their further course of action.

While speaking to India.com Mishra earlier said, “Government is expected to hike the allowances from April 1. We have demanded them to provide the arrears as well. The total amount pending from January 1, 2016, should be given to the employees. But we are not sure whether they would release the arrears as well.”

He said, “Arrears are unlikely, but protests would be launched if they fail to release (the arrears)”.

Earlier the date of implementation for 7CPC was fixed as January 1, 2016. The pay panel report by retired Justice AK Mathur was approved by Union Cabinet in the first week of July. However, government employees were not fully satisfied as the basic component of salary was hiked, as employee unions had raised several anomalies related to allowances.

Apart from the hike in basic salaries, central government employees were also provided arrears for the months of January to June. Similarly, the employees are also seeking arrears on allowances from January 2016.

The NJCA conveyor also expressed disappointment against the Finance Minister for making no reference to central government employees during the Budget speech. NJCA has also asked the minimum pay to hike from Rs 18,000 to Rs 26,000.
