Appeal to the members of All India Postal Employees Union

Dear Comrades,
It has come to our notice that some officials having no trade union spirit are now engaged in confusing and diverting our members to join in other union which has no existence at all. This has been done very tactfully with some vested interest only to weaken the strength of the National Federation of Postal Employees, the only federation protecting the interest of the Postal employees.

Some officials who were the members of NFPE have now separated themselves from the mainstream only to satisfy their vested interest and collecting Authorization Letters in the name of NFPE very shrewdly to form another union. Dear Comrades ! Be aware of such officials who have no intention to work either for you or for the Department.

We sincerely appeal all our members to avoid such officials and give their Authorization Letters only to the Divisional Secretary, All India Postal Employees Union or his authorized person who is known to them. Please don’t sign more than one Authorization Letter. Or else, your membership will be seized till next verification process.

In case of any doubt, please immediately call 9861575691, 9861420603, 9861181748, 9861184651.

Let’s join hands to strengthen NFPE and protect our interest.

Upendra Sahu

Sensing huge business in logistics segment, India Post to raise tie-ups with Retailers

MUMBAI: When did you last remember a postman knocking at you door? Even though it's hard to recall such an incident, your friendly neighbourhood postman may now appear at your doorstep more often, delivering a book or a gadget bought on an ecommerce portal.

The department of posts now delivers more than two lakh ecommerce parcels daily, double of what it used to a year ago, according to a national estimate.

"Ecommerce fulfillment (shipping) is a big business opportunity for us," said Ashok Kumar Dash, chief postmaster general (Maharashtra Circle), India Post. "Associations with ecommerce portals are likely to go up in the coming days, and the quality of delivery in farflung areas will be crucial."For India Post, the new-age business is going to be a key revenue driver with phenomenal rise in daily mailing volumes as it is increasingly looking at associations with entities such as Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal and YEP, a move aimed at revenue generation for the 200-yearold straggler.

For instance, in the Mumbai region of the Maharashtra circle, daily Amazon parcel deliveries have risen to about 7,000 a day at present from a mere 200 shipments in November, two people with the direct knowledge of the matter told ET.

Flipkart too has started shipments to its customers using the postal services. In the Mumbai region, it has been sending around 700-800 parcels daily since the past three months, said one of the persons in the know of things.

Two years ago, the ecommerce revenue was below Rs 200 crore, and it was estimated to be about Rs 400-500 crore in the year ending March 2015.

All-India revenue from ecommerce is expected to be Rs 900-1,000 crore in FY16 for India Post, according to PN Ranjit Kumar, postmaster general (Mumbai), India Post. "Revenues are likely to rise in this segment," he said. Both, however, declined to share further details. The ecommerce sector in India has grown by 34% ( CAGR) since 2009 to touch .

$16.4 billion in 2014, and is expected to be about $22 billion in 2015, according to a recent report by PwC. This in turn has triggered a growth in the logistics business.

India's logistics business is estimated at $100 billion, and India Post is hoping to cater to the growing demand in this sector, especially in tier-II and tier-III cities where the presence of private courier companies is limited. The postal department is trying to use its post office network of over 1.5 lakh branches .

One of the advantages the department is its huge land bank which is crucial for logistics business, according to a senior government official.

Flipkart, Snapdeal to tie up with India Post for same-day delivery

BENGALURU: Online marketplaces Flipkart and Snapdeal could follow in Amazon's footsteps and join hands with India Post's Bengaluru chapter to provide same-day delivery for customers in the city according to a senior official in the postal department.

The technology capital is the first city where India Post began delivering packages to customers of online marketplace Amazon on the day an order is placed.

"The national postal service is in informal talks with Flipkart and Snapdeal who have responded positively to the metro delivery service," said BS Chandrashekhara, assistant director for business development at the Department of Posts, Karnataka Circle.

Since April, when the service for Amazon was launched, the department has been delivering an average of 2000 orders daily in Bengaluru, according to postal officials. The Bengaluru experiment is a pilot project before the postal service can make plans for the rest of the country.

"We are testing our own capabilities," said MS Ramanujan, chief post master general of Karnataka, who said the results of this pilot project in Bengaluru will help the department draw up similar plans for other cities.

A spokeswoman for Snapdeal old ET that while the company is collaborating with India Post extensively for delivery at multiple pincodes, "it's too early to speak about plans for metro delivery service." Flipkart did not respond to email queries from ET.

According to a Goldman Sachs report, the Indian e-commerce market is expected to grow to $300 billion by 2030. India Post will compete in a market where specialist delivery firms like Ecom Express, Delhivery and Go Javas are raising venture funding to expand operations.

Experts are of the view that India Post with its deep reach even in small towns, can become a formidable competitor as a full-fledged logistics company. "The e-commerce companies which are struggling to reach out to all pincodes will also find India Post the most credible option for last mile deliveries," said Arvind Singhal, chairman and managing director of Technopak.

Amazon which was the first to partner with the postal department has "integrated its own technology with the postal service for same-day delivery in Bengaluru," said Amit Agarwal, vice president and country manager of Amazon India.

Delhi and Mumbai are next in line for India Post's same-day-delivery, with limited pin-codes in Chennai and Coimbatore being covered at present. Fashion portal Myntra is also using India Post's cash-on-delivery service on a pilot basis in Bengaluru.

The department prices same-day-delivery orders priced according to average charges fro its speed posts service. The metro delivery service has contributed to 30% of India Post's total revenue in the city in the last three months according to department officials.
