Indian Govt Launches Digishala TV Channel for Rural India to go Cashless

Another great move by the Indian Government has been taken with the help of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). According to some reports the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on Friday launched a free to air channel meant for the rural India based population in order to educate them about going cashless. The name of the channel is – Digishala.

It would be available free to air on DD free-DTH service. According to some analysts the channel is having the potential viewership of two crore across the country. The government has also led an initiative named ‘Digi Dhan Abhiyan’ with the aim to achieve the objective of educating the citizens about the benefits of a cashless economy.

Ravi Shankar Prasad who is the Minister of Electronics and IT at the time of launch of the channel told reporters, “DigiShala will enable and empower every citizen of the country, especially farmers, students, Dalits and women in rural areas to learn the usefulness and benefits of digital payment in our everyday life,”

On the above-mentioned channel the users would be informed about various digital payment options with step by step demos of digital payments using UPI, USSD, Adhaar-enabled payment systems, e-Wallets and cards.

Recently in a tweet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently urged people to “embrace e-banking, mobile banking and more such technology”.

The central government through Nabard is also going to support ‘Rural Regional Banks’ and ‘Cooperative Banks’ to issue “Rupay Kisan Cards” to 4.32 crore ‘Kisan Credit Card’ holders s as to empower them with the ability to make digital transactions at POS machines, micro ATMs and ATMs.
