CONFIGURE MICROSOFT OUTLOOK FOR YOUR GMAIL ACCOUNT
Although most of people use web based Google E-Mail system (Gmail) but some of us want to handle Gmail mails from client software’s like Microsoft Outlook.
If you want to handle your Gmail mails from Microsoft Outlook, follow below instructions to configure Gmail account on Outlook.
How to enable POP3 or IMAP account in Gmail Account?
There are two options to configure Microsoft Outlook to handle your Gmail account.
1. POP3 Account
2. IMAP Account
To handle Gmail account using Microsoft Outlook, You have to enable either POP or IMAP settings in your Gmail account.
Go to Gmail Settings > Enable Forwarding and POP/IMAP

In this article you will see how to setup Microsoft Office Outlook. We have taken example of Microsoft Office Outlook 2007.
Step-1:
Start Outlook > Go to Tools Menu >Click on Account Settings option.
Step-2:
On the Account Settings popup window, Click on New option to add new account in Outlook.
Step-3:
Select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP option to proceed further.
Step-4:
Add New E-Mail Account windows will appear, Don’t enter your name, e-mail and password in the given section. Just click on Manually configure server settings or additional server types option. Click on Next button.
Step-5:
Choose Internet E-mail, Click on Next button.
Step-6:
Now you will have to enter all your settings like Your Name, Your E-Mail Address, Server and Logon information.
- Following are server settings for Microsoft office outlook:
- POP3 Gmail servers for Outlook:
Incoming mail server: pop.gmail.com
Outgoing mail server: smtp.gmail.com
IMAP Gmail server for Outlook:
Incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com
Outgoing mail server: smtp.gmail.com
Step-7:
Click on More Settings option to choose incoming and outgoing port address.
If you configure Gmail as a POP3 Outlook:
- On the Incoming server (POP3) field, enter 995 and check the box “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)”;
- On the Outgoing server (SMTP) field, enter 465 and check the box “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)”.
- If you configure Gmail as an IMAP Outlook:
- On the Incoming server (IMAP) field, enter 993 and check the box “This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)”;
- On the Outgoing server (SMTP) field, enter 587 and check the box “This server requires an encrypted connection (TLS)”.
- For both POP3 and IMAP, you need to enable My outgoing mail server requires authentication under Outgoing Server tab.
- Click on OK button to finish the configuration.
Step-8:
Click on Finish button and your are done.
Enjoy your Gmail mails in Microsoft Office Outlook.
