During this year, Pune Region took a new initiative and decided to provide basic postal services to the Warkaris during the Wari period through Mobile Post Office from Alandi Devachi to Pandharpur during the period of 28.06.2016 to 15.07.2016. The tradition of Wari is going on for more than 300 years and during this lakhs of devotees travel on foot from Alandi to Pandharpur, as it is a very important aspect in the social and religious life of devotees from Maharashtra and surrounding states. The Mobile Post Office functioning in a MMS Van as an extension counter of Alandi Devachi SO travelled with the Wari from Alandi Devachi to Pandharpur during the period from 28.06.2016 to 16.07.2016. Staff consisting of 1 PA, 1 MTS & 1 MMS driver was provided to this Mobile Post Office and all the basic amenities like tables, chairs, weighing scale, cash chest, light arrangements etc, were provided to this office. Similarly, publicity pamphlets and brochures etc and audio system for wide publicity purpose were also provided to this Mobile Post Office. Basic postal services such as sale of postage stamps, booking of regd letters and speed post letters, payment of e-MOs to the devotees and posting of ordinary letters were provided to the Warkaris during the aforesaid period . To commemorate this event, a special set of 15 Picture Postcards depicting photographs of memorable moments of "Pandharichi Wari" and route of Wari on address side of Postcards was released. The photographs on the Picture Postcards were taken from the book "Wari Ek Anandyatra" written by Shri Sandesh Bhandare a renowned photographer of Pune. The cost of each set was kept Rs 110/- with a discount of 5%, l0%, l5%, 20% &. 25 % on purchase of 100,200, 300,400 & 500 sets respectively. A set of 5 Picture Postcards on 5 Saints of Maharashtra closely associated with this Wari was also released. The cost of this set was fixed as Rs 50. These postage stamps of five saints are very rare now; hence all Post cards were totally sold out. The International collectors Society of Rare items, Pune purchased 500 sets of Picture Post cards on "Pandharichi wari" and posted these post cards at 15 locations by affixing stamps of Rs 6/- on each card. Some philatelists from Pune & Baroda also purchased few sets of picture postcards and posted them in Mobile Post office at each halt location by affixing postage Stamps of Rs 6/- on each card. This activity gave revenue of Rs 1.20 lakhs. In addition to above; my stamp counter was also established at Mobile Post Office during the halts at Pune on 29.06.2016 &.30.06.2016.
