In a dramatic move to reinvent itself, the Postal department has decided to provide space at its facilities across the city and suburbs for advertisement of local products and services. Boards have been installed at the counter halls where customers can view these advertisements.
This move is in keeping with the department’s efforts to create alternative revenue streams, which include a foray into retail sales of various products, including chotukool from Godrej and mobile phones. The department has also tied up with online shopping sites for delivery of products. Residents with various needs – which could include the sale or rent of houses/plots or vehicles – and agents looking for business or traders who wish to display details about their businesses and shops may use the space for a charge of Rs.1,000.
Department officials said the advertisements would be on display for two weeks and advertisers might extend the display period by paying Rs. 500. The advertisement must be placed in an ‘A4’ size sheet.
It will be available even in rural post offices.
