A total of 591 students took part in the contest that was organised in two places by the Vellore Postal Division. The department is celebrating the National Postal Week from October 9 to 15.
Officials said they provided an A4 paper and Rs. 5 postal cover for the students. They had to write a letter on any one of three given topics to their grand father or grand mother – ‘How will I spend my vacation’, ‘One day in my school’ and ‘My favourite book’. It was held for two categories – classes I to V and classes VI to X.
The students submitted their entries and had to mention the address of their grand parent on the cover. This letter will be sent to the grand parent.
Three top entries will be selected from the division, and their letters will be sent for evaluation at the State and national level, officials added.
In addition to the contest, the department also organised a philatelic exhibition in line with the celebrations. They have also planned for a postal life insurance and rural postal life insurance mela at Kulalar Thirumana Mandapam, Virinjipuram on Wednesday, the officials said.
