7th Pay Commission as a "disaster for the country." - BJP's Saini

CHANDIGARH: Kurukshetra MP Raj Kumar Saini termed the 7th Pay Commission as a "disaster for the country." During a meet-the-press at Chandigarh Press Club on Wednesday, BJP's Saini, who is known for verbal outbursts and opposition to quota for Jat community, opposed the move of giving Haryana employees pay scales on the lines of Punjab.

In its manifesto during Haryana assembly elections, BJP had promised to bring salaries of Haryana government employees at par with their counterparts in neighbouring Punjab. "Those seeking pay scales on the lines of Punjab should join there. Let the system of appraisals be introduced in the government sector and salary revision be done according to performance of employees. This will not only end problem of unemployment, but will also bring parity among private and government employees," he said.

Coming back to the issue of other backward classes (OBC) quota for Jats, Saini said, "They are people who have dominated the general category. Now, Jats want to eat share of OBCs. If allowed, they would also not hesitate in taking share of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. I have been accused of spreading hatred on this issue. But will anyone clarify who ordered to recruit armed men for the Jat brigade with lathis? Let there be a system of representation for all communities after identifying their creamy layers. Or the reservation be done on the basis of economic surveys."

Saini said he had warned his party that touching OBC quota would mean that the BJP would meet the same fate as that of Congress. "We can go to any extent to protect quota of our OBC communities," Saini added.
